Stu Ungar is considered by many to the greatest No Limit Texas holdem Poker gambler ever.

The three time World Poker Champion was born in New York in ‘53 and started wagering poker prior to becomming a teenager.

The young gambler began playing gin and at the age of ten had won his 1st gin rummy tournament, while on holiday with his mother and father. By the time he turned 14 the small poker genius had become a professional and dropped out of school.

In 1954 Stu entered the history books by winning 10,000 dollars in a gin rummy tournament without losing a single hand, a record which still appears in New York these days.

The quick talking superstar has been likened, in poker terms, to sporting superstars like Joe Namath and Tiger Woods. Stu Ungar had a real skill for playing poker but in spite of his successes in Texas hold’em poker, he preferred wagering gin.

Stu once said that there may several day be a much better NL Hold em gambler than him except he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a improved gin player.

In 1980 Stu was put on the global map as one of the very best Hold em Poker gamblers in the entire world when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the 1st time. Amazingly it was the 1st time he had entered the tournament.

The subsequent year he dismissed any suggestions that it had been luck, by effectively defending his title. And in 1997 Stu set the record by winning his 3rd World poker championship.

But this poker master also fought with substance abuse and a year after winning his 3rd title Stu Ungar past away in his hotel room. According to medical professionals, he had passed away from a heart attack which was caused by his lifestyle.

Stu had started out with nothing except his skill and natural talent for the casino game which made this poker good a millionaire quite a few times over.
