Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of wagering ensues and then the river card is flipped. The players must attempt to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of players can get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the best possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the same approach in nearly every poker game.

The lower hand is more difficult, but really opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem complicated at first, following a few hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an amazing collection of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have many individuals trying for the high, and many trying for the low. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
