Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he loved taking part in various card games when he was young. He found himself getting very aggressive in these card games as he was playing his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a bit and relocated to New York to play some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were rough as he played extensive hours and fail to win most times. He made some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he possibly could boost his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to acquire more sleep and focus attention even more on poker.

The real improvement in his abilities began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly play against one another. Howard had access into a number of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would hone his strategic thinking skills. He applied these strategy ideas to the game of No-Limit holdem.

Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke master poker. Annie was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie to move out to Sin City and play in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest women players the poker arena today. Howard moved to Sin City in 1993 and played money games for the subsequent 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
